The mission is bigger than the firefight
Plan. Move. Adapt.
The right trucks. The right crew.
Assign drivers, A-drivers and gunners. Arrange security, command and cargo vehicles around the supplies and mission ahead.
Keep the outposts supplied.
Move water, food, ammunition and equipment across an Afghanistan-inspired map. Balance urgent deliveries with QRF response and convoy readiness.
People make the difference.
Earn mission XP, train and promote Marines, upgrade vehicles, and manage fatigue and morale between operations.
Take a seat in the convoy
Three ways to take control.
Driver
Steer through obstacles, protect the vehicles behind you, and help civilians with water while keeping the convoy moving.
Gunner
Watch approaching people and vehicles, use warning flares, follow the game's rules of engagement, and survive incoming fire.
Commander
See the convoy, adjust pace and spacing, answer radio requests, and choose how your Marines respond as the situation changes.
These are fictional game challenges, not real-world military training or operational guidance.
Back at Leatherneck
Build a base worth coming home to.
Improve the chow hall, fitness facilities, living quarters, perimeter and mortar shelters. Replenish water, repair damage, rest your platoons, and prepare for the next mission.
Between operations, play simulated Texas Hold'em with free virtual chips. Chips have no monetary value and cannot be purchased, transferred or redeemed.
A personal mission
Created by a Marine.
Inspired by service.
Outside The Wire was created by David Bryant, a Marine Corps Purple Heart veteran who deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and was wounded in action by a suicide bomber on September 9, 2009.
The game puts the often-overlooked work of military logistics at its center: looking after Marines, keeping outposts supplied, and making decisions under pressure.
The setting draws inspiration from service in Afghanistan. Missions, dialogue, routes and progression are fictionalized—not a reenactment of a specific attack. Historical tribute characters' game roles and bonuses are fictional.
